Have you ever wondered why there are more men in tech than women? Gender diversity in tech is lower than other industries, and the gap does not appear to be closing anytime soon. This challenge is not a cultural phenomenon but a global issue, and many countries have paid little attention to increasing the numbers.
I started my tech journey in 1999 as an IT support staff and gradually grew into a C-suite role over the past 25 years. The journey was very lonely at the beginning as there were few women in tech, and those few were mainly selling either hardware or tech products. I didn’t have a female mentor who could help me navigate the journey. I had to learn the hard way. I was bullied at work by my male colleagues and often reminded that I was in a male domain. Seven years into my career, I became the CIO of a company, and I maintained that role for 18 years before I transitioned into an entrepreneur.
As a woman in tech, I encountered several challenges. For example, there were times when promotions were delayed because my employer believed my male counterparts were more productive. I saw that married women in tech suffered backlash from taking maternity leave, which is often recorded negatively in their productivity. Read full article here.
